Uno Tournament Rules
UNO TEAM NIGHT – OFFICIAL HOUSE RULES & TOURNAMENT FORMAT
EVENT DETAILS
• Entry Fee: $25 per team
• Teams consist of 2 players.
• Registration begins at 3:00 PM.
• Tournament starts promptly at 3:30 PM.
• Teams arriving after the tournament begins may be subject to forfeiture at the
Tournament Director’s discretion.
FORMAT
• Teams are randomly assigned into the tournament bracket before play begins.
• Tournament format is Double Elimination (Winner’s Bracket and Loser’s Bracket).
• A team must lose twice before being eliminated from the tournament.
SEATING
• Teammates must sit across from each other.
• Players may not show their cards to their teammate.
• Players may not discuss strategy during a hand.
• No coaching, signaling, or intentionally communicating information about cards in hand.
MATCH FORMAT
• Each match lasts 45 minutes.
• Teams play as many rounds as possible during the allotted time.
• At the end of the match, the team with the LOWER total score wins.
• If time expires during a hand, that hand is completed before scores are calculated.
SCORING
At the end of each round, the team that goes out receives points from all cards remaining
in the opposing team’s hands.
Card Values:
• Number Cards = Face Value
• Skip = 20 Points
• Reverse = 20 Points
• Draw 2 = 20 Points
• Wild = 50 Points
• Wild Draw 4 = 50 Points
MERCY RULE
• If one team gains a 300-point advantage during a match, the match immediately ends.
• Examples:
– Team A: 0 | Team B: 300 → Team A wins
– Team A: 120 | Team B: 420 → Team A wins
• The objective is to have the lowest score.
UNO CALL
• Players must call “UNO” when they have one card remaining.
• If a player fails to call UNO and is caught before the next player begins their turn, they
must draw 2 penalty cards.
DRAWING CARDS
• If a player cannot play a card, they must draw according to standard UNO rules.
• If the drawn card is playable, it may be played immediately.
HOUSE RULES
• Draw 2 cards may be stacked on another Draw 2 card.
• Wild Draw 4 cards may be stacked only on another Wild Draw 4 card.
• Draw 2 cards and Wild Draw 4 cards may not be stacked together.
• Players unable to continue a stack must draw the entire accumulated penalty.
• Wild Draw 4 cards may be played at any time, regardless of whether the player has a
matching color available.
• No challenges are allowed on Wild Draw 4 cards.
• Only one card may be played per turn unless resolving a stack.
• Tournament Director decisions are final.
GOING OUT ON AN ACTION CARD
• A player may legally go out on a Draw 2 or Wild Draw 4 card.
• When this occurs, the action card remains active and must be resolved.
• The next player must either draw the required cards or continue the stack if they have a
matching action card.
• Play continues until the action is fully resolved.
• If the stack continues all the way around the table and returns to the player who originally
went out, that player must draw the accumulated penalty cards.
• A round is not officially over until all action-card penalties have been resolved.
• Once resolved, scoring is calculated normally.
TIEBREAKER
• If a match is tied at the end of the 30-minute time limit, a Sudden Death hand will be
played.
• The first team to go out and end the hand wins the match.
• The 300-point mercy rule does not apply during the Sudden Death hand.
CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
• The Championship Match lasts 45 minutes.
• The 300-point mercy rule does not apply during the Championship Match.
• If the Championship Match ends in a tie, a Sudden Death hand will be played.
• The team with the lowest score at the end of 60 minutes, or the winner of Sudden Death if
tied, is crowned Champion.
